Speaking up for Liverpool Riverside
I am proud to represent Liverpool Riverside, the constituency where I was born, brought up and still live. Elected in 2019 as Liverpool’s first Black MP, I am committed to speaking up for all of my residents in the most diverse constituency in the city.
My background is in community development and adult social care, working in the more disadvantaged areas of Liverpool. I am a lifelong trade unionist, most recently a shop steward in UNISON and a lay member of the UNISON Black Members’ Regional and National Committees.
Elected in 2019, I am dedicated to speaking up and fighting for the people of Liverpool Riverside.
My work in Parliament
I’m based in London from Mondays to Wednesdays and sometimes on Thursdays and Fridays depending on Parliamentary business. As the elected MP for Liverpool Riverside I regularly speak up in Parliamentary debates on issues that impact constituents, vote on legislation and sit on two Parliamentary Select Committees: Home Affairs and Women & Equalities.
The purpose of these Committees is to hold the Government to account on their actions, to question Ministers and to hold in-depth investigations on key Immigration, Security, Policing and Equalities issues. You can find more detail of what these Committees do here:

My work in Liverpool Riverside
The best part of my job is finding out more about my constituency, meeting organisations, hearing first-hand the tremendous and valuable work they do for our Riverside citizens. I also attend meetings with key stakeholders including the Liverpool City Council Leader and Chief Executive, Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor, hospitals, universities, businesses and charities, where I lobby for my constituents on a range of issues. I also hold regular surgeries across the constituency for people who need my support with their personal circumstances.
